White House Publishes Findings from Trump's Annual Physical Examination

The White House on Sunday released President Trump’s health report, declaring him “fully fit to execute the duties” of the presidency while noting conditions such as high cholesterol, which is described as “well controlled.”

The report, written by the president’s physician, Dr. Sean P. Barbabella, states that Mr. Trump “remains in excellent health” and exhibits “excellent cognitive and physical health.” It highlights Mr. Trump’s “frequent victories in golf events” as indicative of his “active lifestyle” contributing to his overall well-being.

The document details Mr. Trump’s medical history, including treatment for high cholesterol, skin damage from sun exposure, seasonal allergies, and diverticulosis, a condition involving small pouches in the colon wall. It also notes that he has undergone cataract surgery for both eyes and had a benign colon polyp removed.

During a visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland on Friday, Mr. Trump underwent cognitive and cardiology tests. He remarked to reporters that he felt he was in “good shape” and had a “good heart.”

The health report specifies that Mr. Trump completed “a comprehensive neurological examination,” which revealed no cognitive abnormalities. He scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, which tests mental capacity through various tasks. A score of 25 or lower indicates cognitive impairment.

The report includes laboratory test results for cholesterol, stating that Mr. Trump’s levels were within a normal range, unlike the blood count levels reported in 2023. It remains unclear whether Dr. Barbabella will address questions from the media, a practice that has occurred with Mr. Trump’s physicians in the past.

This is the first public accounting of Mr. Trump’s health since returning to office in January, making him the oldest individual ever sworn in as president. His previous medical disclosures have faced skepticism, particularly following an assassination attempt in July, which made him more reserved about sharing medical information.

Past medical statements about Mr. Trump have raised doubts. In 2018, a personal physician claimed Mr. Trump had dictated a note asserting he would be the “healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.” In the same year, then-White House physician Dr. Ronny L. Jackson declared Mr. Trump’s cardiac health “excellent” despite high LDL cholesterol levels. Cardiologists not affiliated with the White House expressed concerns at that time about Mr. Trump’s risk for a heart attack.

In 2020, Dr. Sean P. Conley acknowledged misleading the public regarding Mr. Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis in an effort to convey a more positive outlook on the president’s condition.

Mr. Trump is known for a diet high in fast food, ice cream, red meat, and soda. He has described himself as “very much of a germaphobe” and claims to not consume alcohol or smoke. The report notes that he typically sleeps around five hours nightly and is recorded as standing 6 feet 3 inches tall.

The Sunday report lists Mr. Trump’s weight at 224 pounds, which is nine pounds heavier than his records from 2023, when he faced charges related to attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

While presidents are not obligated to disclose their medical records, it has become a tradition for them to do so, demonstrating to the American public their capability to fulfill the demands of the presidency.

Mr. Trump’s predecessor, Joseph R. Biden Jr., faced scrutiny regarding his age at 82 when he left office, an issue that contributed to his decision to withdraw from the 2024 election race in July.
