Several Injured in Shooting Incident at Florida State University

The police responded to reports of a shooting at the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee on Thursday, officials said.

The Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare system confirmed it was treating patients related to the incident at Florida State.

Gunshots were reported at the student union building shortly after noon. Approximately thirty minutes later, the university issued a shelter-in-place alert and canceled all classes and athletic events for the remainder of the day.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported that a police spokesperson indicated one person was in custody and multiple injuries had occurred.

The campus police stated that the situation remained active, and they did not provide further information. Officers began evacuating academic buildings soon after the shelter-in-place alert was issued, instructing students to remain in place until they could be reached by law enforcement.

The F.B.I. in Jacksonville announced via social media that it was assisting with the response.

Local and state police were present on campus, escorting students from buildings near the student union.

The last day of classes is scheduled for next Friday.

This is a developing story.
