Rory McIlroy, who was the runner-up at the Masters in 2022, was tied with Corey Connors at six under, while Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 and 2024 Masters champion, found himself in a four-way tie for fifth at five under par.
Justin Rose, a 44-year-old Englishman, has led or shared the lead after a round at the Masters on ten occasions, including on both Thursday and Friday. Despite his consistent performance, he has yet to secure a green jacket, having finished as the runner-up in 2015 and 2017, the latter being a playoff loss to Sergio Garcia.
