Elon Musk is set to leave his full-time position in Washington next month to focus on Tesla, which has experienced a decline in stock value, as well as to advance SpaceX's interests with the Trump administration and to develop xAI, which he has integrated with X.
Despite his busy schedule, Musk's top adviser, Jared Birchall, has established three limited-liability companies in Texas, named Red Planet I, II, and III, which have not been previously reported. This move aligns with Musk's long-term ambitions to colonize Mars.
Birchall, who manages Musk's family office, Excession, registered the companies on February 25, using an Austin address associated with other Musk entities. This development raises questions about Musk's intentions, especially as he has recently indicated a need to reduce his commitments, particularly regarding DOGE, to devote more time to Tesla.
Birchall has a history of managing various aspects of Musk's life and business, including his acquisition of Twitter and other personal matters. The creation of the Red Planet companies is notable given Musk's ongoing plans for Mars exploration, including aspirations for human landings by 2029.
Interestingly, there is already a company named Red Planet Ventures, founded by John Spencer, who claims to have known Musk well. Spencer expressed curiosity about Musk's new LLCs and suggested potential naming conflicts.
In addition to his business ventures, Musk has been active on X, where he has criticized judges and supported the Trump administration's agenda. He has shared posts that amplify claims of judicial corruption and has engaged in discussions about Trump's potential return to office, despite constitutional limitations.
Recent reports have revealed insights into Musk's relationship with Trump, including Musk's frustrations with interactions with Trump's trade advisers and the dynamics surrounding his role in national security discussions.
As Musk prepares to shift his focus, questions remain about the future of his various initiatives and how they will be managed in his absence.
