The Israeli military announced it conducted strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen early Thursday, following recent attacks on Israel by the Iran-backed militia.
According to Al-Masirah, a television channel associated with the Houthis, the airstrikes resulted in the deaths of nine individuals. This development occurred shortly after Israel intercepted a missile that had been launched from Yemen.
The Israeli military detailed that warplanes targeted Houthi sites on the western coast and in inland regions of Yemen. The strikes included attacks on "ports and energy infrastructure" in the capital, Sana, as reported in a subsequent military statement.
Al-Masirah reported that seven individuals were killed in the port city of Salif, while two others lost their lives at an oil facility in Ras Isa, both located in western Yemen near the larger port of Hudaydah, an area controlled by the Houthis.
The Israeli military has engaged in multiple strikes against the Houthis in recent months. The militia has been targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea for over a year, citing its actions as support for Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Additionally, the Houthis have launched missiles at Israel, situated over 1,300 miles northwest of Yemen. Most of these missiles have been intercepted, according to Israeli officials. However, a notable drone strike on Tel Aviv in July resulted in one fatality and several injuries, prompting retaliatory airstrikes by Israel on Hudaydah.
