Lee Minho of Pachinko Relies on Notes App for Preparation

Lee Minho, a prominent South Korean actor and singer, reflects on his career shift that began four years ago with the script for “Pachinko,” a drama based on Min Jin Lee's novel. The series, which follows four generations of a Korean immigrant family, resonated with Lee, who described it as a story that transcends time. In “Pachinko,” now in its second season on Apple TV+, Lee portrays Koh Hansu, a morally complex character involved in a love affair with Sunja, played by Minha Kim. In a recent video call from Seoul, Lee shared insights into his character's emotional depth, expressing empathy for Hansu's struggles and survival methods. He emphasized the importance of family, noting that his character's connections to Sunja and Noa mirror his own realizations about identity through close relationships. Lee also discussed the satisfaction he derives from immersing himself in his projects, highlighting the joy he feels upon their release. Despite his glamorous lifestyle, Lee values tranquility at home, often unwinding by exploring stories on YouTube and playing video games like League of Legends. He expressed concern about the increasing virtual interactions in modern life, suggesting a need to reflect on humanity and the narratives that should be told. Lee utilizes his Notes app to capture inspiration and prepare for roles, often writing from the perspective of his characters. Lee also shared his appreciation for nature, recalling his travels to New Zealand and visits to Niagara Falls during filming breaks. He has developed a newfound interest in cycling, enjoying the independence it offers. His desire for new experiences extends to his creative pursuits, including writing. Additionally, he finds inspiration in historical sites, imagining the lives of those who once inhabited them, which fuels his creativity. On set, Lee enjoys listening to music, favoring instrumental pieces by composers like Beethoven and Mozart during the filming of “Pachinko,” while also appreciating contemporary artists like Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes.
