Israel has confirmed its first military casualty in the invasion of Lebanon.


Israeli military reported on Wednesday that eight soldiers were killed in combat in Lebanon, marking the first combat deaths in Israel's invasion of Lebanon that began the previous night. The soldiers were engaged in operations in southern Lebanon, with five belonging to the elite Egoz Unit. Hezbollah claimed to have fought Israeli soldiers in border villages and released videos of evacuating soldiers. The Israeli town of Avivim was targeted with rockets, and an explosive device injured Israeli soldiers in Yaroun. Lebanon's army confirmed Israeli forces crossed the border briefly. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed condolences to the fallen soldiers' families. The deceased soldiers were identified by the Israeli military, but details on the wounded soldiers were not provided.
