The death toll is increasing as dangerous floods pose a threat to Central Europe: What we have learned.

Severe flooding in Central Europe has led to at least 17 deaths and numerous people missing, with thousands displaced. The flooding, caused by heavy rainfall from Storm Boris, has devastated towns, destroyed infrastructure, and breached dams. This disaster has reignited memories of the catastrophic 1997 floods. Romania, with seven deaths, and Poland, with at least five deaths, are among the worst-hit countries. The Czech Republic reported two deaths and 12 missing persons, while Austria has confirmed three deaths. Cities in Austria and Vienna have been significantly impacted, with public transit suspended and extensive damage reported. The ongoing rainfall and high water levels continue to pose a significant risk, with authorities working tirelessly to provide relief and assess the damage.
