Israel attacks residential area in attempt to eliminate Hezbollah leader.

Israeli military conducted airstrikes on residential buildings in southern Beirut targeting Hezbollah's central headquarters following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations. The strike aimed at Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, causing casualties and destruction. Lebanon's health minister reported deaths and injuries, with fears of more casualties. The Lebanese prime minister criticized Israel's actions and called for international intervention. Israel claimed the strikes were necessary for self-defense against Iranian-backed militias. The U.S. had no prior knowledge of the operation. The conflict has resulted in numerous casualties and displaced individuals. Netanyahu vowed to continue attacks until Israelis displaced by Hezbollah's rockets can return home. Efforts for cease-fires in Gaza and Lebanon have been proposed but faced challenges. The situation has escalated tensions between Iran and Israel, with threats of retaliation. Iran condemned the strike, warning of a forceful response. The incident has raised concerns about further escalation and the potential for a ground invasion of Lebanon.
