Helene has ended the lives of over 90 individuals. Here are accounts of some of them.

Hurricane Helene, a devastating Category 4 storm, has claimed the lives of over 90 individuals across six states in the Southeastern United States. Victims perished due to drowning, falling trees, car accidents, and a tornado spawned by the storm. As rescue efforts continue, the death toll is expected to rise, particularly in the Appalachian Mountains where flooding and mudslides have wreaked havoc. In Florida, the storm took the lives of several individuals, including Marjorie Havard, a 79-year-old woman who drowned in Pinellas County. Despite evacuation orders, Havard chose to stay in her home, ultimately succumbing to the storm surge. Another victim, Aidan Bowles, 71, was found trapped under a dresser in his Indian Rocks Beach residence. Rachel Burch, 37, also perished in Pinellas County. Known for her hurricane relief efforts after Hurricane Ian in 2022, Burch was described as outgoing and helpful by her friend Angee Romero. Additionally, Patricia Mikos, 80, lost her life in Dunedin when water rushed into her home, causing a potential electrical fire. Outside of Florida, Michael Roukous, 29, was killed in Aiken County, South Carolina, when a tree fell on his residence. Described as a helpful and outdoorsy individual, Roukous was a beloved figure in his community. The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has left a trail of destruction and tragedy, with communities mourning the loss of these individuals who perished in the storm.
