A Brazilian court has ordered one company owned by Musk to pay fines to another company.

Brazil’s Supreme Court faced a challenge when the social network X, owned by Elon Musk, refused to pay fines and was blocked nationwide. In response, the court directed two Brazilian banks to deduct $3.3 million in fines from the accounts of X and Starlink, another Musk-controlled company. This action came after Justice Alexandre de Moraes imposed fines on X and blocked the platform for defying court orders. To enforce the fines, Justice Moraes froze Starlink's local assets, leading the banks to transfer $1.3 million from X's accounts and $2 million from Starlink's to the Brazilian government. This move marked a resolution to the dispute, which had involved debates over online content censorship, with X remaining blocked in Brazil. Despite some legal experts questioning the interpretation that Starlink was liable for X's fines, the court upheld the decision due to missed appeal deadlines. Starlink's request to unfreeze its assets was denied, with Elon Musk criticizing the action as illegal, given that Starlink is owned by SpaceX, in which he holds a significant stake. The situation also saw Starlink initially supporting X in its dispute but later complying with the blocking order to avoid license repercussions in Brazil.
