Prosecutors will debate the claim of innocence made by a prisoner on death row.

In a Missouri court hearing this Wednesday, Marcellus Williams will present DNA evidence in an attempt to prove his innocence before his execution next month. The case has pitted two law enforcement officials against each other, with the local prosecutor advocating for Williams and the state attorney general opposing the hearing. The prosecutor argues that new DNA evidence and other facts cast doubt on the conviction, while the attorney general has attempted to block the hearing. Williams, convicted of killing a reporter during a 1998 burglary, has consistently maintained his innocence. The case has been plagued by witness credibility issues and concerns about the handling of evidence. Despite previous attempts to halt his execution for DNA testing, Williams faces a renewed push for his execution by the state attorney general.
