Canada is set to enforce 100% tariffs on electric vehicles from China.

Canada has recently announced its decision to impose significant tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and steel/aluminum imports, aligning itself with the United States and the European Union in an effort to protect its domestic automotive industry. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau highlighted the move as a response to China's unfair trade practices and a way to safeguard the substantial investments made by Canadian governments in electric vehicle and battery factories. The tariffs are expected to strain Canada's diplomatic relations with China and may lead to retaliatory actions by the Chinese government. Despite concerns from some environmentalists and political groups, the Canadian government emphasized the importance of aligning its policies with other economies around the world. This development reflects a shift in Canada's approach towards China and its trade relationship, which deteriorated in 2018 following the arrest of a senior executive from Huawei and subsequent retaliatory actions by China.
