16 states with Republican leadership are contesting a program designed to assist spouses who are undocumented.

Republican-led states, including Texas, have filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration, seeking to stop a new program that could grant legal status to hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens. The lawsuit alleges that the program exceeds the executive branch's discretion and misuses parole authority. The Biden administration defends the program, which aims to provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented spouses of Americans living in the U.S. for over a decade. Immigrant-advocacy groups criticize the lawsuit as an attack on immigrants and American families. The lawsuit was filed by Texas, Idaho, and 14 state attorneys general from other Republican-led states.
