A massive wildfire led to the evacuation of Jasper National Park in Western Canada, prompting thousands of residents to flee their homes amid numerous large blazes. The Alberta province issued an emergency alert on Monday for the park and the town of Jasper due to a wildfire threatening the area. With over 160 active wildfires in Alberta and approximately 7,500 people under evacuation orders, the situation remains critical. The Semo Complex fire, burning 96,000 acres, is one of many deemed "out of control." Canada is bracing for a potentially worse wildfire season than last year, which saw record-breaking blazes and widespread smoke in U.S. cities. Climate change has raised the risk of large wildfires in Canada, with the wildfire season typically spanning from March to October. The impact of Canadian wildfires on air quality has even reached areas as far as Minnesota and Wisconsin. Despite having a population of around 5,000, Jasper sees as many as 12,000 seasonal workers annually, and Jasper National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks.
