Ben Sasse is set to resign as the president of the University of Florida.

University of Florida President Ben Sasse, a former Republican senator, has announced his resignation to focus on caring for his ailing wife, Melissa. Dr. Sasse, 52, took office in February 2023 and will step down on July 31. His wife, who has faced health challenges since 2007, was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and memory issues. Despite his dedication to the university, Dr. Sasse expressed the need to prioritize his family. He plans to remain in Gainesville, Florida, as president emeritus and continue teaching. Dr. Sasse's tenure as president coincided with political tensions, including the signing of a bill by Governor Ron DeSantis to restrict university spending on certain programs. As a former senator, Dr. Sasse was known for his conservative views and criticism of Donald Trump, having voted to convict him in his second impeachment trial.
