Severe flooding and landslides in southern China's Guangdong Province have resulted in at least 47 deaths, with Meizhou city experiencing unprecedented rainfall. The city of Meizhou, home to 3.8 million people, has been grappling with power and water outages, affecting around 9,000 households. The death toll surged from nine to 47 in Meizhou and its jurisdiction, with more than 100,000 people evacuated. Extreme weather has also caused fatalities in nearby provinces, with the whole country facing potential weather-related disasters. Chinese authorities have cautioned about continued heavy rainfall until the end of the month, particularly in the Yangtze River region. This year's global temperatures are on track to be the hottest in recorded history.
