The task was to assess how effectively artificial intelligence could plan a trip to Norway without relying on personal online research. Three A.I. travel planners were tested, each offering unique features. Vacay and Mindtrip asked personalized questions to tailor their suggestions, while ChatGPT provided instantaneous information without personalization. The planners presented well-rounded itineraries, but I found myself resorting to my own research instincts at times. The premium Vacay service and the free Mindtrip provided detailed suggestions and additional resources, but I encountered limitations with ChatGPT's phone app. Despite the increasing reliance on A.I. for travel planning, I discovered the value of human guidance and the element of serendipity during the trip. In Oslo, the A.I. assistants directed me efficiently, but I deviated from their suggestions to explore places not mentioned by the A.I. assistants. In the fjord region, the A.I. planners offered different transportation options, and I ultimately relied on personal judgment to plan aspects like accommodation and travel logistics. In conclusion, while the A.I. programs were helpful, they were not flawless and lacked the human touch and serendipitous experiences that enrich travel. Each A.I. assistant had its strengths and weaknesses, with Mindtrip being the preferred choice due to its polished interface and detailed features, despite lacking a phone app at the time.
