The jury in a federal lawsuit couldn't reach a decision on the allegations of torture at Abu Ghraib.

A federal jury in Virginia declared a mistrial in a lawsuit filed by three Iraqi men who claimed they were tortured at Abu Ghraib prison by employees of defense contractor CACI Premier Technology. The jury was deadlocked after deliberating for almost eight days. The mistrial allows the lawsuit, filed in 2008, to continue if the plaintiffs seek another trial and the court agrees. The plaintiffs were represented by the Center for Constitutional Rights and Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler. The mistrial follows a decade-long legal battle by CACI to have the case dismissed. The lawsuit alleges that CACI employees directed U.S. military guards to abuse the men. The mistrial means the plaintiffs' legal team can pursue a retrial. The case was brought 20 years after the widely publicized abuse at Abu Ghraib, which revealed shocking images and authorized brutal interrogation techniques by U.S. officials. A subsidiary of CACI International, the defendant, has denied any wrongdoing.
