Slovakia's Prime Minister is in a critical condition following a shooting incident.

Slovakia's Prime Minister, Robert Fico, was seriously wounded in what the government labeled an assassination attempt. The attack occurred during a meeting with supporters in Handlova, leaving Fico in a "life-threatening condition" with multiple gunshot wounds. President Zuzana Caputova condemned the "brutal and reckless attack" and wished Fico strength in recovery. The exact nature of his injuries was unknown, and there was no immediate police comment. International figures, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, expressed support for Fico. This incident comes amid Fico's return to power after his 2018 resignation over corruption allegations and his efforts to limit the judiciary's power.
