Negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas are reported to be stuck once more.

The recent negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Cairo reached a deadlock, with both sides struggling to reach an agreement on a cease-fire and the release of hostages. Despite initial signs of progress, the talks hit a setback over the weekend, leading to continued suffering for Palestinians in Gaza and prolonged captivity for hostages. The main point of contention was the duration of the cease-fire, with Hamas insisting on a permanent halt to the fighting while Israel was open to only a temporary arrangement. Both sides blamed each other for the lack of progress, with Hamas accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing the agreement. The United States also played a role in the negotiations, urging Israel to avoid a major operation in Rafah. While the talks are currently at an impasse, there are indications that both parties are still reviewing proposals, and Hamas intends to continue participating in the negotiations with a positive outlook.
