Detroit's population is finally on the rise according to the latest estimates.

Detroit's population, after years of decline, showed a slight increase in 2023, reaching 633,218 residents. This growth is significant for a city that has struggled with depopulation due to factors such as the decline of the auto industry and suburban flight. Similar moderate population rebounds were observed in other big cities in the Midwest and Northeast. Southern cities continued to experience robust growth, with 13 of the 15 fastest-growing cities located in the South. Detroit's mayor, Mike Duggan, expressed satisfaction with the population estimate, emphasizing the city's progress and the fulfillment of his campaign promise to reverse its population decline. Despite ongoing challenges, such as declining office space demand, Detroit's population growth reflects years of dedicated efforts, including housing renovations and increased property values.
