Colombia's President Gustavo Petro announced the severance of diplomatic ties with Israel, labeling the Israeli government as "genocidal" due to its actions in Gaza. This decision was made during a speech in Bogotá on International Workers' Day. Colombia becomes the second South American nation, after Bolivia, to cut ties with Israel over its actions in Gaza. Israel's foreign minister denounced the move, while Mr. Petro had previously threatened to sever ties if Israel did not comply with a U.N. Security Council resolution for a cease-fire. This decision follows Colombia's suspension of purchasing Israeli weapons in February after a deadly incident involving aid trucks in Gaza.
