A man accused of sexually assaulting a college student in Pennsylvania in 2013 and then admitting to the crime in a message has been arrested in France. Ian Thomas Cleary, 31, was detained in Metz, France, and is currently in custody. The extradition process to the United States may take up to 60 days. The arrest warrant was issued after the victim, Shannon Keeler, discovered incriminating Facebook messages from Cleary. The case had faced challenges, including the destruction of the victim's rape kit, but a breakthrough came when new messages from Cleary were found in 2020. The U.S. Marshals Service suspected he had fled overseas, leading to his Interpol red notice.
