A former British marine accused of spying for Hong Kong's intelligence service, identified as Matthew Trickett, was found dead in a park in Maidenhead, west of London. He was one of three men charged under Britain’s National Security Act for assisting the Hong Kong intelligence service. Tensions between Britain and China have been escalating, with the British government accusing China of espionage. Trickett, 37, was an immigration enforcement officer and a former Royal Marine, and also ran a private security firm. The circumstances of his death are being investigated. His family expressed their grief, and he had been on bail awaiting court hearings. China's crackdown in Hong Kong has led to numerous people seeking refuge, with Britain offering a special visa program for Hong Kong residents, resulting in over 160,000 arrivals since 2021.
