What is known about Iran's military as it poses a threat to Israel

The recent military clash between Iran and Israel has drawn attention to Iran’s armed forces. After Israel attacked Iran’s diplomatic compound in Damascus, Iran retaliated with a broad aerial assault on Israel, raising concerns of a wider regional conflict. Iran’s military, one of the largest in the Middle East, includes the traditional army, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and the elite Quds Force, which supports proxy militias across the region. Iran's military arsenal comprises ballistic missiles, drones, and air defenses, with an emphasis on deterrence. Despite international sanctions, Iran has developed a domestic weapons industry to reduce reliance on foreign powers. While Iran's military is strong regionally, it lags behind the US, Israel, and European countries in power and sophistication. The recent assassinations of senior military officials may temporarily impact Iran’s regional operations, but its chain of command remains intact.
