Vatican Says Gender Change and Surrogacy Are Threats to Human Dignity

The Vatican, approved by Pope Francis, issued a document denouncing gender fluidity, transition surgery, and surrogacy as affronts to human dignity. It emphasized that a person's assigned sex at birth is a gift from God and warned against gender change interventions. The document also opposed surrogacy and in vitro fertilization, stating that they exploit the child and erode human dignity. While the document aimed to reaffirm the church's teachings on human dignity, it sparked concern among L.G.B.T.Q. advocates. Despite Pope Francis' efforts for a more inclusive church, the document reflects the church's firm stance on these issues. Cardinal Fernández highlighted the church's welcoming stance while acknowledging the doctrinal importance of the document. The Vatican also expressed concern about "ideological colonization" and debated the scientific coherence of gender theory. The document called for denouncing discrimination based on sexual orientation while highlighting critical issues in gender theory. The Vatican's position on these matters remains firm, despite the pope's efforts towards inclusivity.
