The U.S. Army has commenced the construction of a floating pier and causeway near Gaza for humanitarian aid, aiming to facilitate the delivery of up to two million meals daily to the enclave's residents, bypassing Israeli land convoy restrictions. President Biden initiated the project, scheduled for completion early next month. While aid organizations have welcomed this addition to ongoing airdrops, concerns about security and adequacy persist. The operation, known as J-Lots, involves assembling the facility at sea, with a complex shuttle system for aid transport and security provided by the Israeli military. The initiative is expected to bring in aid for around 90 trucks a day initially, increasing to 150 trucks daily at full capacity.
