Indigenous Australian artist Archie Moore won the top prize at the Venice Biennale for his installation "kith and kin," a monumental family tree drawing in the Australia Pavilion. The installation, encompassing 3,484 names, also includes a table with government documents related to Indigenous Australian deaths in police custody. The jury praised it as a "mournful archive" with strong aesthetic and lyricism. Another major award went to Mataaho Collective, a group of Maori women, for their traditional mat-inspired installation. The Biennale, in its 60th edition, features pavilions for individual countries and a central exhibition showcasing migrant and Indigenous artists. The event is open to the public until Nov. 24.
