Mountain Lion Attack Leaves Man Dead and Brother Injured in California

A rare mountain lion attack in Northern California resulted in the death of one man and the injury of his brother. The brothers, aged 18 and 21, were attacked in a remote area near Sacramento while searching for antlers. The younger brother called 911 and reported the attack, suffering facial injuries. Deputies found the mountain lion near the older brother, who unfortunately did not survive. The surviving brother is expected to recover after undergoing multiple surgeries. The mountain lion was euthanized, and its remains were sent for DNA testing and health assessment. Mountain lion attacks on humans are rare in California, with fewer than 50 verified attacks since 1890, and only six of them fatal. The last fatal encounter was in 2004.
