Klimt Landscape Show Is More, and Less, Than Expected

"Klimt Landscapes" at Neue Galerie presents a different experience than anticipated. The exhibition showcases only five late landscapes, deviating from the expected sizable survey. The show also includes smaller paintings from the 1880s to 1900, revealing Klimt's artistic development. Despite the deviation from expectations, the exhibition offers an intimate view of Klimt's life, work, and milieu, featuring visual and archival materials. The show highlights Klimt's relationship with Emilie Flöge and the influence of Vienna Secession and Wiener Werkstätte on his work. The exhibition provides a unique perspective on Klimt's life and times, offering an effective use of context. The show runs until May 6 at Neue Galerie in Manhattan.
