France Enshrines Access to Abortion in Constitution, a Global First

France has become the first country in the world to include access to abortion in its Constitution. The amendment, approved by a vote of 780-72, guarantees abortion as a freedom overseen by Parliament's laws. This move reflects widespread support for abortion in France and follows the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The amendment was met with minimal opposition in France, where the issue is seen as a basic public health service and a woman's right. The decision has been hailed as a milestone in women's rights and a significant step towards gender equality.
