Chicago Tax Referendum and Prosecutor Primary Are Too Close to Call

Chicago's primary election results are still uncertain as vote counting continues. A referendum to change the city's real estate transfer tax and raise rates on high-value properties for homelessness programs seems to be failing, with many ballots yet to be counted. In the race for the Democratic nomination for top prosecutor, Eileen O’Neill Burke holds a slight lead over Clayton Harris III. The city's progressive establishment backed both the ballot measure and Harris, causing frustration over their potential failure. With precincts unable to report results on election night and a large number of mail-in ballots, the final outcome is expected to be clearer by the weekend.
