Birmingham-Southern College to Close After Failing to Secure State Loan

Birmingham-Southern College, a private liberal arts school in Alabama, is closing in May after failing to secure a state loan. The school's board of trustees voted to shut down due to financial struggles exacerbated by the pandemic. Despite efforts to secure a loan, the state treasurer denied it, leading to the college's closure. Students and staff are being supported in transferring to other institutions, while the community mourns the loss of the historic college.
