Appeals Court Overturns Vybz Kartel’s Murder Conviction

Vybz Kartel’s murder conviction and life sentence for the 2011 killing of Clive Williams have been overturned by Jamaica's highest court of appeal. The Privy Council in London ruled that jury misconduct during the 2014 trial, particularly involving "Juror X," infringed on the defendants' right to a fair hearing. The decision raises the possibility of a retrial for Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants. The artist, known for his success in Jamaica and collaborations with international artists, has continued to release music while imprisoned. The case centered on allegations that the victims were killed after failing to return unlicensed firearms belonging to Vybz Kartel. All four defendants had pleaded not guilty.
