Summer Has Long Stressed Electric Grids. Now Winter Does, Too.

Electric grids, originally designed for summer demand, are now struggling to cope with winter demand as well. Due to increased electricity use in homes and businesses and aging utility equipment, grids are under more strain during winter. Demand for electricity during winter is expected to exceed summer demand by 2033 due to factors such as the growing use of electric cars, data centers, and electric heaters in place of oil or gas furnaces. This shift in demand is putting pressure on the electric grid, leading to concerns about potential blackouts.
