U.S. Criminally Charges EBay in Cyberstalking Case

eBay faces criminal charges for cyberstalking a Massachusetts couple who ran an e-commerce newsletter. The Justice Department accused eBay of stalking, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. The company will pay a $3 million penalty and must maintain a clean record for three years to have the charges dropped. eBay will also have an independent monitor and could face further action if it violates the agreement. Despite the relatively small penalty for the company, the case has brought notoriety.
