Senators Denounce Tech Companies Over Child Sex Abuse Online

Senators condemned tech companies for not doing enough to prevent child sexual abuse online, accusing Meta, TikTok, Snap, X, and Discord of prioritizing profits over the well-being of youths. During a 3.5-hour hearing, lawmakers criticized the executives for ignoring harmful content against children and likened them to cigarette makers. The tech leaders defended their efforts to strengthen safety measures and expressed support for a bill enhancing privacy and parental controls for children. Meta's CEO apologized to parents of online child sexual exploitation victims and pledged to invest in prevention efforts.
