San Francisco Tried to Build a $1.7 Million Toilet. It’s Still Not Done.

San Francisco's attempt to construct a $1.7 million public toilet in the Noe Valley neighborhood has become a symbol of the city's bureaucratic inefficiencies. The project faced backlash for its high cost and lengthy timeline. After facing ridicule and criticism, the city eventually lost its funding and could not proceed with the project. However, private donors stepped in and offered to donate a modular bathroom and cover installation costs. Despite initial progress, discussions broke down, and the project remains stalled. The ordeal highlights the city's struggles with inefficiency in public projects and the challenges of navigating permitting and building processes. Governor Newsom has released the $1.7 million back to the city with the promise of installing two or three public toilets, but there has been minimal progress on those fronts as well.
