Russian intelligence-backed hackers gained unauthorized access to the emails of Microsoft senior executives, aiming to uncover what the company knew about them. The intrusion, discovered a week ago, targeted accounts of leadership, cybersecurity, legal, and other staff. The hacking group, known as Midnight Blizzard, utilized a basic tactic called password spraying to gain access. Microsoft stated no evidence exists of the hackers accessing customer environments, production systems, source code, or A.I. systems. The company is cooperating with law enforcement following the incident.
